Cynaxus is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead custom application development engagements across our software practice. This role combines deep technical leadership with direct client engagement — you will lead small senior teams building bespoke applications, integrations, and modernizations for regulated-industry clients.
About the role
You will lead engagements end-to-end: discovery, architecture, build, harden, deploy, and handoff. Engagements vary — from a custom matter-intake system for an AmLaw firm, to a patient-portal rebuild for a health system, to replacing a bank's brittle legacy web stack with a modern TypeScript application the client's own team can maintain after we leave.
What you bring
12+ years of hands-on software engineering, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership capacity. Deep expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript — including React in production at scale and ideally Astro or comparable modern frameworks — and strong Python (Django or FastAPI). Experience leading small teams (3-7 senior engineers) on customer-facing engagements. A habit of writing code that passes a security review the first time, because our clients are the kind who run them. Excellent communication — you will be the primary technical point of contact for client executives, and your written communication will appear in deliverables to client boards.
