If you are unable to author or read code without AI, this job is not for you.

Cynaxus is hiring a contractor Full-Stack Engineer to provide peer code review and technical oversight across our software engineering engagements. The stack is TypeScript end-to-end, Next.js on the front end, Docker for containerization, and AWS for deployment. This role is structured for someone who wants focused, high-quality work on a flexible schedule — not a contractor version of a full-time delivery job.

About the role

You will review production-bound application code produced by our engineering teams and clients — catching what slipped through, surfacing architectural concerns before they are load-bearing, and documenting findings with enough precision to be acted on. Reviews cover front-end component design, API shape and security, containerization practice, and cloud deployment configuration. The expectation is thorough, written review on a defined cadence; you will not be asked to join daily standups or carry on-call responsibility.

What you'll do

Review TypeScript and Next.js application code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability — including server components, API routes, data-fetching patterns, and auth implementation. Review Dockerfiles, Compose configurations, and container deployment patterns for correctness, image hygiene, secrets handling, and production readiness. Review AWS deployment configuration (ECS, Lambda, Amplify, or comparable) for security posture, IAM scope, and operational soundness. Flag patterns that are technically functional but will become a problem at scale, under audit, or after the original author has left. Write review notes a senior engineer can act on without a follow-up call.

What you bring

A substantial pre-AI track record of shipped TypeScript and Next.js applications — your depth in this stack was built before code generation did the scaffolding, and you can demonstrate it. You read pull requests cold and catch what the author missed. Hands-on experience with Docker in production, not just local development. Working familiarity with AWS deployment patterns for containerized and serverless applications. Strong opinions about API design, component boundaries, and what makes code maintainable two years after the PR merged. Experience with regulated-industry clients (legal, healthcare, financial services) is a meaningful differentiator. Excellent written communication — your review output is the deliverable.

Compensation

Hourly or retainer rate commensurate with senior full-stack depth, plus a performance bonus tied to engagement quality and client outcomes. Flexible scheduling; no set weekly hours minimum beyond what engagements require. Full details discussed openly in the first conversation.

What we offer

Peer review work that actually matters — for clients whose applications handle sensitive data in regulated industries. Senior AWS, security, and infrastructure peers across the firm. Vendor-neutral delivery. US-based, fully remote.
